My Mother

Hello Everyone, Thank you for visiting my blog today.  Before I post my pics...I want to introduce you to a new follower,  Vicki,   Vicki's blog can be found here
Thank you Vicki for joining my blog,  Vicki does beautiful work, and I loved taking a tour of her beautiful (very Organized) craft room that she has posted on her blog.

Today is my Mother's Birth day!  So this post is a tribute to her.

This is the picture that I have on my sidebar...through the years I made many hand made gifts for my Mother.  She told me that this gift was her favorite!

Yesterday, I did my yearly trip to the cancer to drop off a box of cards.  My Mother had actually asked me to do that for her.  It makes me happy to know that there is still something that I can do for her.  I didn't realize how therapeutic it would be for me too.
A Rose for MOM

If  roses grow in heaven

If roses grow in Heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother's arms
And tell her they're from me,

Tell her that I love her and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold her for a while.

Remembering her is easy.
I do it everyday,
But there is an ache within my heart
That will never go away.

Hope you have a very blessed weekend,

Two Important Birthday's this week

No cards made this week, it's just been too busy. I do have something to celebrate, My oldest friend , who is also the friend that I have had the longest...(since we were both in sixth grade together) had a birthday this week, and I had the opportunity to visit her in the hospital on her birthday! No, it's not where she wanted to be on her birthday. But after her being in ICU for several days, I am so happy that she is still able to celebrate her birthday. She almost didn't celebrate this one. We share so many memories...The pic below, is us as teenagers...(I'm the right on the right---yes, I used to be thin...) Happy Birthday, Geri! And Here's too many, many more! Also, I celebrated my Mother's birthday, by taking a box of my greeting cards to the cancer center, where My Mother and I spent a lot of time together. I hated her having to go there and endure some of the painful treatments, but I never realized how much I would miss our time together there. We spent many hours chatting, and in one of those chats she asked me to take down a box of my greeting cards to the cancer center.
I wanted to somehow celebrate her birthday in a positive way and I remembered that I had made that promise to her, and this week I finally kept my promise. I just hope they liked the cards. Happy Birthday, Mom!
I wanted to water mark My Mother's photo, but couldn't figure out how to do it...So please forgive my blog name going accross the photo...this was one of my favorite pics of my Mother...
She was so beautiful...

Hope everyone is having a good week...
Many Blessings to you,
Jill

National scrapbooking day...

I so hoped to make a page today for national scrap booking day...but I spent the day instead running errands, and getting some things to finish my craft room.  (almost done)
So instead, I doing another repost from a previous blog post of mine found here...

This is the cover of a scrapbook I made for my Mother one year for Mother's day, of course,
the picture on the front is me with my Mom.  I put vellum over the picture, and added some
plastic tiles on the bottom for the title.  If you click on the above link you should be able to
see some more photos from the book.

Two of my favorite scrapbooking sites are..

I do like to scrapbook, but I do more with card making, I think it goes a bit faster.  (I'm a slow crafter...smile)  Do you scrapbook?
Hope everyone is having a great weekend....Blessings, Jill

Repost of Mother's Memory jar

Since my craft room is still not together, and most of my craft things are still in boxes...I decided to do a couple of  re posts on some of the gifts that I made for my Mother through the years.  Hoping that some of these gifts will give some inspiration to someone.

I originally posted about this Memory jar here...
My Mother only had a small apartment, and she was a "shopper" one of  her favorite things to do.  So...there was very little she needed, and it made it hard for me to buy things for her...fortunately, for me, she loved home made gifts.  So each year I would try and make something special for her.  This was a favorite of hers.  If you read my original post you will see that it was not my idea, I found it in a magazine.  I was surprised at how much this gift meant to her.  I still have it, and from time to time I will read the notes inside till the tears start to come, then I put it away for later.  But I also remember how much she enjoyed it and reading the notes I had inside......So it will be a keeper!

These are some of the notes from inside the jar...

I remember the cake Jerry and I baked for your birthday.  It fell apart when we took it out of the oven, and we tried to glue it back together with lots and lots of icing.  It was an Overly "sweet" cake, but you seemed to appreciate it anyway.  At least you made us feel that way....smile.

I remember the day I learned to ride my bike for the first time in my back yard.  I asked you if I could ride my bike out in front of the house.  You cautioned me that I was not ready, and I didn't listen, and I fell off of my bike into our neighbors bush next door.  The one with the thorns.  Ouch!

I remember how much fun I had with the flour and water paste you would make up for me, and let me make a collage on our basement door using cut outs from our old Sears Catalogs...

I remember a favorite dress that you purchased ...you bought it for me when I was in grade school...Yellow and white with small yellow rose buds on the dress underneath, and it had a pretty organza pinafore that went over top the dress with a pretty lace collar.

Hope everyone is having a good day...

Blessings,
Jill

Happy Mother's day to all the Mothers...

To Live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die...Thomas Campbell...

Mother you will always live in my heart...Happy Mother's day...

This is an old card that I had made for my Mother
I spotted this pillow and it made me think of My Dear Mother-in-law, She made this pillow for my husband for his birthday. And yes, she was not only a very talented lady, she was also someone who had a lot of patience...smile. You would have to...to cross stitch this pillow all those red cross-stitches. I miss you too, Mom.

This is another old card that I had made for my Mother. The 3d image reminding me of a photograph I have of myself which looked very much like this one. My Mother was always buying me dolls. (and I had one that looked very much like the one in this picture.

A Mother is a Blessing and a Loving Treasure.

Happy Mother's day...I'm pretty sure that I am going to have a nice one...My daughter is taking me out for breakfast!

My Mother's book

The cover to my book I'm adding just a couple of pages from the book I had made for my Mother...

I wanted to add some more pages...but blogget is giving me a hard time
with adding these photos...so I might try again later.

My book was made as a birthday/Mother's day gift to my Mother
about 5 years ago...and one of the biggest sections of the book was devoted to my Mother and her gardening skills...
and that really goes along with today's post.

I received a call from my Mother's best friend today...and her news really brightened my day.
Not too long before my Mother passed away she made a special request for me to take a potted plant to her doctor.
I did as she asked, but I had no idea at the time, how much it would mean to her doctor. ( The plant was an orchid. My Mother had beautiful orchids growing on her sunporch. )

I had been to her doctor's office many times, in the exam room with her, and in the waiting room, but I had never been in her doctor's office. I didn't know he had a big picture window with other orchids on the window sill. My Mother's friend told me that my Mother's plant was the only one still blooming, and another doctor in the same building asked if he could take a picture of it. Now that picture is hanging on another doctor's waiting room. This would have made my Mother very happy.

I remember these being some of my Mother's favorite Movie actors in the Fifties

Of course, I had to put a picture of my daughter's wedding into my Mother's book

Mother's Memory Jar

I always tried to have a special gift for my Mother on Mother's day...most of the time it was something that was handmade. The two gifts that I'm posting today ....I think were two of her favorites.
I got the inspiration for the memory jar many years ago from a magazine, but I can't remember which one it was...I know there are several web sites and blogs that have memory jars on them.(sorry I forgot to look for links before I posted this...
This is the picture that I have posted at the top of my blog, I was asked if I could show the larger picture, and I said I would post it today. I still have the dress that I am wearing in the picture
My Memory jar is full of slips of paper that I just folded, I started to read them today and I had to stop, I get too weepy to read too many at a time...some of the examples are...
...I treasure the heart shaped locket you gave me...The one that belonged to Granny.
...Thank you for "helping" the tooth fairy to put money under my pillow...
Thank you for being my MOTHER.
I had to stop reading when I came to the third slip of paper.....
The year I made this memory jar and showed it to my crafting buddy, Cherie, she also made one that year for her Mother. She rolled all her slips of paper, and tied each one with a pretty ribbon. I wasn't quite that ambitious. I just folded slips of paper....smile...
I'm posting this today, because I thought it might give someone else an idea for Mother's day, it's a gift I don't think would take to long to make. Just takes a little time to write out the slips of paper.
