I made this card for this months challenge at Dreamweaver Stencil blog...the link to the challenge can be found here
  http://dreamweaverstencils.blogspot.com/2013/04/thursdays-dream-schemes-tutorial-on.html

I made my card using my favorite stencil...the umbrella stencil  LG737.  I won that stencil in one of the Dreamweaver challenges.  I also used a Dreamweaver stencil for my sentiment  LG738.  I used my  Matte black embossing paste on the stencil.   I paper pieced my umbrella and also my rubber boots which I stamped with memento ink  ..the stamp is from Hampton Art. Not sure where the Dp is from, I added a ribbon and some Stampin' Up dimensionals to pop up some of  my images.

Thank you for visiting my blog today,

Card for May day...

I realize it's still April...but I need to get this card in the mail.  So I thought I take a pic and make a quick post while I'm thinking about it.  I made this card for a family member that likes May day...it brings back a favorite childhood memory for her.  My husband colored this image for me ages ago  and can't quite remember if it was a digi image or from a rubber stamp we may have borrowed.
He colored it with copics, and I added a lace background that was punched with a Martha Stewart punch around the page punch (deco fan)

A card for Teapot Tuesday at Split Coast Stampers...

I finally made a card for the Split Coast Teapot Tuesday Challenge, MMTPT247.  It has been a while since I have been able to join the challenge.  It has always been one of my favorite, because the cards often go to shut ins,   This one is going to a teacher.  A teacher who started a "Kindness club" which also sends cards to shut ins etc...

In fact, this was the description for the challenge at split coast

For many years, Barb and members of her club have spread sunshine by making and distributing more than 47,000 greeting cards to people who are ill, mourning, lonely or struggling with other adversity in their lives.

So now it's her turn to receive some Happy mail.  My card was made by recycling.  My sister in law had made me a Birthday card many years, using her embroidery sewing machine to make the apple for my card.  Her card was made a bit different and much larger than mine.  I have been trying to house clean and try and let go of some of my extra received cards....difficult for me to let go of things.  especially if it's something handmade.
So I called my sister-in-law and asked her if she would mind if I recycled her card by reusing her apple.  She thought it was neat that her Apple that had been happy mail for me...would also be happy mail for someone else.

Thank you for visiting my blog...

Jill

I received another card

I have been such a fortunate lady this past week to find all these beautiful cards in my mailbox..
I think I may need to change the name of my blog to "Other people's cards!"  LOL

This card is from Sabrina, who lives in Ireland.  So my card traveled a LONG distance to make it into my mailbox.  I think the card is adorable,  In real life, the glitter, and I think (stickles) and gems really make it sparkle.  I think it's clever that she used cork for the mushroom...  Thank you, so much, Sabrina,    Sabrina's fabulous gallery at Split Coast Stampers can be found here

Dynamic Duos Challenge #48

I made this card for this week's dynamic duos challenge.  The colors for this week are Bashful Blue and Pumpkin pie.  The challenge can be found here

I'm also entering my card in the Twisted Sister Challenge at Split Coast Stampers. TSC0412.  The challenge to make a card using one of the four listed retiring colors.  I chose Bashful blue from the list.

My card was made using vellum for my flowers.  The flowers were cut out using a Tim Holtz die (Tattered Florals)  I put my flowers on a background that was dry embossed with a cuttlebug folder (swiss dots) and I used Stampin' Up Designer paper.  My sentiment was stamped with a stamp from Fiskars.  I added a ribbon, buttons, and dimensionals.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.

The path

The stamp used is by Our Daily Bread Designs,   It is called "Path"  my husband colored this card for me with copics.   Since it's a sympathy card. ( I made this one for my second nephew) I decided to keep this card plain, and just let my husband's wonderful detailed coloring show. Sentiment is from SweetNSassy stamps.

I'm putting this inside the card:

No tears past the Gate.  Someone new has entered our eternal home above - the heavenly gate has opened to welcome one you love.  We cannot help the tears that fall - our hearts need time to grieve when earthly life has ended and a loved one has to leave.  Yet even in the saddest time, we know our Savior lives, and we can trust completely in the promise that He gives - that in a glad reunion with the Lord our loved ones wait to welcome us in joy with no more tears beyond the gate!

I found the above verse at Split coast stampers in a thread in their forum, where you can find a link for card sentiments.

On a Happier note, I found out that my card that I have posted below.  Made the favorites thread for this week.  I needed this happy news right now.  Thank you so much...
I don't have to tell anyone reading my blog that I enjoy making cards....LOL.
While it's been not my favorite thing to do...Make Sympathy cards...it has been therapy for me this week.  My husband lost his oldest sister to cancer on Friday.  It has helped me to take my mind off of some of the sadness.  I only have a few more to make, and then I hope to post Happier cards again.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers,
and for stopping by my blog today...

Another birthday card

This is another card I made for the lady that was my Mother's best friend.  Carrie loves cards with Victorian images, and I wanted to do that for her with her birthday card, but I ended up making her one with roses for her birthday card,  I decided to make an extra for her to send and use a Victorian image on this one.  I like these kind of cards too.  I guess I am a bit old fashioned.  (Maybe it's because I am  OLD  LOL)  Not sure where I found this image.  If and when I find where I found this image I will update this post.

My background was added using my embossing folder from Stampin' Up (fancy fan) added some ecru lace along the side, brads, and a K&Company butterfly.

Birthday card for my Sister

I made a birthday card for my sister...(she's actually my step-sister) but I consider her to be more like my sister.  I made her a box card...the link to make a box card can be found below...

I made a box card on my blog before. To see what the inside of this card looks like click below.

The link below is where I found the instructions to make my box card

If the above link does not work this is the link to Valita's blog
she posted the box card instructions in her November 10, 2010 post.

I still have to finish the inside of my card and put a birthday verse in it...
In the second pic I had to post the new flowers that my husband bought for me...

My card was made using a cuttlebug embossing folder (Textile) and the front embellishment mounted on Spellbinder dies (Labels Eleven)  I used a Stampin" spot ink (Bashful Blue) to rub on my cuttlebug folder before embossing.  My Verse on front is a sticker and the flower is a K & Company sticker.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

Birthday Card

Birthday Card, I made for my Mother's friend...

I tried using the following page for the background for a folding card, but they looked too busy
for my card when folded up, so Instead I'm going to keep them as a background for a scrapbook page.

I wasn't feeling well yesterday, so my hubby brought me a flower picked from our garden.
It was proof to me that spring is finally here.  Don't you like the fancy container he put it in?

Carol, (known as GingerBeary) her website is here...

Did a tutorial at Split coast stampers for the Napkin gold card which can be found here...

I also had made two of these cards using a Tutorial found at Stampartic
which can be found at the following link...

I had made two of these cards before which can be found here...

The part of I find the most difficult about these cards is figuring out what papers/patterns
I'm going to use...they turn out to be two busy or too plain...

that's why I thought the one set I did would work better for a scrapbook page background.

In one of previous posts I mentioned using a hammer to make my card  (for the eyelets)
On this card I had to use an IRON!  Don't ask me how long it's been since I got out my iron...
I could not tell you.  But my flower on the front of the card, was actually bought a few years
ago when I went to a quilt show with my daughter.  It's actually an Iron on for fabric.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.
Blessings, and Happy Spring

I'm going down memory lane

Filoli Gardens...Click on pictures to enlarge
 Muir woods

and Napa Valley trail
I'm working on a card right now...that is only about half finished, and I had to walk away from it...
Can you tell that it is not going very well...Time to take a break...and maybe Day dream a bit instead!

This time of year, I always think back over my DREAM vacation.  My husband and I have done very little traveling through the years..  (There's this thing called budget...that has prevented us from taking too many vacations  smile).  However, I was fortunate enough to get to go on what I call my dream vacation back in 2007.  I live on the East Coast, and for me to get on a vacation to the West coast was something I thought I would never be able to do.  Thanks to family and friends who provided free lodging and some free meals, (and my Mother even paid for our plane fare as our Christmas gift)  We managed to get to California for a couple of weeks...Our longest vacation ever.  We were in Napa Valley, (My favorite)  near Pis-mo Beach, Solvang, and San Francisco.

I enjoyed almost everything about it, except the plane ride.  It was only my second time on a plane, and I hated it almost as much as my first trip on a plane.

I was visiting a blog yesterday...

I found Liz's blog while I was visiting the Dream team's blogs     Dreamweaver stencils
(the link is on my side bar.

Liz posted a beautiful card she made using a Dream weaver stencil. The stencil reminded her of the wisteria at Filoli Gardens in California.  She immediately had me dreaming about my vacation in California, and visiting those beautiful gardens...I had to go and try to find  my pictures from the Gardens...

Another favorite place I visited was Muir woods, and the Napa Valley trail...

I hoped to post more photos...but, at the moment, I can't find where I saved those photos on my computer or the disc, I have them on.  (I told you I'm not too organized.  But I did find the discs that my SIL gave me of our vacation.  which has over 4000 photos on it...  I think it's going to take me some time to find the photos on those discs that I am looking for...LOL

so I am going to have post those another day...

I hope you enjoyed day dreaming with me today....

Thank you for visiting my blog...
Blessings,
Jill

My husband made card Number 3

My husband made his Third Card...and Yes, I did suggest to him he should start up his own blog...smile
This is a another card my husband made using an image from Imagine and Do...He colored it with copics and added decorative peel offs to the corners...the whole card was done by him...

************************* Card Making Basics******************

Whenever I'm with new crafters/stampers  (which is usually my neighbors, friends, or family members)...I usually make sure I give them some Card making BASICS.

Not that I am an expert at making cards...but I have been making cards for about 6 years or so now...so I would like to think that I have learned a little something along the way...and the
following is usually some basic hints that I start with...

1.  Before you lay the project that you are working on down on any surface...whether it's a desk, table, etc...

make sure that the surface is free of any sticky stuff (glue, etc) and any moisture... (ask me how I know this...

2.  Along the same lines as the above hint...if you are sipping any beverage while working on your project/cards, etc.

Make sure your bottle, cup, etc...has a lid "Securely" fastened on.  (ask me how I know this)

3.  Before you glue down any images or embellishments to the front of your card..

Make sure card is opening in the correct direction!  again, ask me how I know this...LOL

I hope my husband doesn't read this post...but he had a problem with one of these rules...
but I am sure he has learned from it...LOL

Anyone else have a problem with any of the above?

Thank you for visiting my blog today...

Blessings,
Jill

Ugliest Card ever challenge

And here is my Ugliest Card ever...

You can sort of blame this post on...Carol...from Our little inspirations...

Carol, is one of first bloggers I met through blogging.  I can tell you that Carol's beautiful cards are even prettier in real life...so she does Not make ugly cards...Okay, Carol, I have to tell you that I sort of agree the card you posted for the The Ugliest Card ever challenge...sort of qualifies...don't think it's as ugly as mine though...LOL

Carol's blog, led me to find Darnell's blog...

Darnell's blog is a real treat to visit.  I usually grab a box of kleenex before I go visit her blog.  I have had to wipe tears from my eyes many times.  She has a great sense of humor.

And this is the blog that Carol, and Darnell led me to...

The above link you will find the challenge for the Ugliest cards...I have enjoyed reading the posts for these cards...Perfect post for April Fool's day...

The link below is where I originally posted my "Ugly" card, and you can see that I called it an Ugly card even back then.
http://ribbonchallenged.blogspot.com/2010/09/ugly-card.html

Since I have link within on my blog, I would see that card, every now and then show up.  And I would always think to myself...."Oh No, it's that card again."  So now that I have posted it twice it
will come up twice as often...Oh Goodie!  It's one of those cards where you say.  "What was I thinking"?

My card was for a challenge where I had to have...
stripes
circles
and spots on my card...

Well, my card definitely fit the challenge, but I had to go a bit overboard and add half of the supplies in my craft room at the time.  You have to admit it's a one of a kind card!  I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to case this card.  In fact, in is a NONE of a kind card.  I went looking for it, because of this challenge, but I could NOT find it.  I think I threw it in the trash.  I know for a fact, that I did NOT mail it to anyone...

Thank you so much for this challenge, it's a fun challenge.

Thank you visiting my blog today.
Blessings,
Jill
